MEET OUR SPEAKERS

Michael McCabe

Regional Director for the Inter-America and Pacific Region, Peace Corps

Mike McCabe is the Regional Director for the Inter-America and Pacific Region of Peace Corps. He brings over 30 years of professional experience managing international development programmes in over 40 countries. His expertise includes strategic planning, management and administration, grant implementation, youth development, education technology, programme design/implementation, training design and facilitation, and public-private sector partnerships. Mike previously worked at USAID as the Agency Senior Advisor on Youth – overseeing the coordination of youth issues across all sectors of the Agency.

Maximilian G. Ventura

Chairperson, Philippines Coalition on Volunteerism 

Max headed Philam Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of Philamlife Insurance, an affiliate of AIA Group in Hong Kong. He now leads his own CSR/ESG consultancy. He has a degree in business administration and a Master’s in Development Management. He was a Jesuit Volunteer in the early 90’s organising farmers. He established the Kaakbay Philam Volunteer Corps in the early 2000s at Philamlife and has actively advocated volunteerism in the corporate sector. He chairs the Philippines Coalition on Volunteerism, which strives to mainstream volunteerism for nation-building.

Prof. Tan Sri Dr. Jemilah Mahmood

Executive Director, Sunway Centre of Planetary Health, Sunway University

Dr. Mahmood is a medical professional with over two decades of experience managing crises in health, disasters and conflict settings. She is currently Professor and Executive Director of the Sunway Centre for Planetary Health at Sunway University in Malaysia. She holds advisory council roles in the Government of Malaysia in Foreign Policy, Health and Climate Change. She is also the sustainability advisor at AirAsia and the National Advisor of the Malaysian Red Crescent Society. Globally, she is a member of the Board of Roche in Switzerland and the Norwegian Refugee Council, a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council of Responsible Resource Use and a Global Ambassador for the Humanitarian Grand Bargain. She strongly advocates planetary health and sustainability and actively advises on Environment, Social and Governance in the advisory and board roles she holds. Previous appointments include the Under Secretary General for Partnerships at the IFRC, Chief of the World Humanitarian Summit secretariat at the United Nations, and Chief of the Humanitarian Response Branch at UNFPA. She is the Founder of MERCY Malaysia, a southern-based international humanitarian organisation.
