Consultants needed for ‘A New Dawn for Volunteering for Development’ – A Facilitated Strategy Process

Forum is seeking to engage a consultant or consultants to deliver a facilitated strategy process for our member organisations. The aim of this process is to generate, through conversations with the Forum membership and outside voices, strategic recommendations to support our members in meeting the challenges and opportunities that they face as we emerge from the COVID pandemic and in the years that follow.

The project will use existing research as the basis for a series of conversations which will serve to share information amongst our members, provoke new thinking and, most importantly, generate actionable strategy recommendations for Forum members and Forum itself.

We expect that this work will focus on three issues that have dominated recent conversations among Forum members:

  • COVID-19
  • Climate Action
  • Diversity and Inclusion

as well as other trends that have not received the same attention in Forum’s work, such as technological advancement, new forms of philanthropy and financing, and shrinking civil society space.

Objectives

This work will capture the collective wisdom of the Forum network and stakeholders in the wider development, travel, government, donor and other sectors, and provide concrete advice to Forum members on how to plot a course through this uncertain and changing environment. Its outcomes will inform Forum members’ strategic thinking and help them to make better-informed decisions over the next three to five years.

Deliverables

The main deliverables will be:

  1. A final report no longer than 10 pages which will be published. This report may include case studies.
  2. A supplementary final report no longer than 5 pages which will be shared only with Forum members.

The project will require the development of briefing documents for conversations with Forum members, and reports of those conversations. We may also ask participants in the process to produce think pieces based on their inputs, which will not be produced by the consultant(s) but will sit alongside their deliverables.

We estimate that this work will require 25 days of work. It must be completed by the end of July 2022.

This work will inform conversations on ‘A New Dawn for Volunteering for Development’ at the IVCO 2022 conference which is taking place from the 16th to the 19th of October in Saly, Senegal. We will agree with the consultant on what type of input or inputs will be best for IVCO 2022.
